1970 Jeep Commando
This Jeep came from a referal from the owner of the 64 Vette. The original body imploded when the owner removed it from the frame, he found another body in California and had it shipped to his house. The Jeep was origanally intended to be a ranch truck, but during the build process we got carried away. The engine is a 250hp crate motor with a Comp Cam 4x4 cam and a good harmonic balancer, other than those two items it is stock. It has a Edelbrock Performer intake with a Holley 650 double pumper supplied by a Holley blue fuel pump. The transmission is a turbo 350 with a NP 203 transfer case spinning the original axles with new drive shafts, and a posi in both axles with 4.10 gears all the way around. Stainless Steel disc brakes in the front were installed with the original drum brakes rebiult in the rear. The springs were replaced with a set of 4" lift at all the way around, with a custom 2" body lift. With the extra lift the Addco steering stabilizer would not fit so drop brackets had to be made. A big aluminum radiator with 2 electric fans was installed in favor of the small original radiator with the mechanical fan driven off of the original inline 6 motor. The engine has a serpentine belt and pulley system from March Performance with A/C, power steering w/external resevoir, and a 140 amp chrome alternator and a custom idler to prevent throwing the belt. Custom motor mounts, front crossmember and transmission/transfer case mounts had to be made to accept the new drivetrane. The battery was moved to the right rear, and a deep cycle battery was added for the future winch and stereo system, covered with a custom stainless steel cover, and seperated with a painless dual battery isolator solenoid controlled from the front. The body is Painted Chevy Indigo Blue with the Rhino Liner sprayed by Truck Tuff here in Waller, the Rims and Mickey Thompson tires came from Wholesale Wheel and Tire in Pasadena. The top is presently being worked on along with the planning of the bumpers, roll cage, and stereo
